Virtual Bulletin Board

We use Bulletin Boards to display information, reward students for good work, and to inform others of what we are doing in our classrooms. Virtual Bulletin Boards allow parents, teachers, and students to see what we are doing in our classrooms and in our schools.

  1. What is visual literacy?
Visual literacy is referred to as "the ability to interpret visual messages accurately and to create such messages" (Smaldino p.52). Well designed visuals will help students to learn a principle or task regardless of language, age, or cultural bias.

What are two strategies that you may use to teach visual literacy?
Visual literacy works much like two way communication. That is there are output signals, and input signals that help to teach literacy. Input strategies help learners to decode or “read” the visual properly by keying on their analytical skills. An output strategy is a way for students to encode or “write” their ideas and express them with others (Smaldino p.52).
